MOP Projects - Alex Wisser, Brown Council & Dara Gill
I know I have said this before, but I love Mop! and I know that I don’t get there very often, usually clashes with other openings but I had to come to this one or my good name was mud.
Alex Wisser is a young artist who looks like will go very far. In his first solo ‘Blank Canvas’, Inkjet prints on Softex paper are really lovely, they exude a strange warmth reflecting upon a family’s history of one well loved room. The soft lighting reveals more compassion as if the room was only just vacated, you can still feel the essence of the occupant. ‘Blank Canvas 2’ has a gramophone player tucked into the corner next to the fridge, there is a soft breeze blowing through the window and the lace tablecloth is slightly waving.
These are not empty of people they are just waiting for their reincarnation, their old life to be stripped away and a new beginning with a new family. The size of these works is relevant, because they make you feel like your standing in these rooms standing just out of sight. Truly beautiful and well done Alex.
‘Group Work’ by Brown Council is a collaborative piece by a collaborative group, yes I should have realized that was coming. Love the name Brown Council, sorry I’ve not heard of them but will no doubt hear about them from now on. And I must say I really loved this work, love the concept, love how it’s not permanent that it’s a fleeting moment.
Is Dara Gill questioning the moment between actions, I like how this man thinks! Found this work quite interesting and rather thought provoking and looked kinda official with the clipboards and all.
Get to MOP if you’ve not seen this show as it closes on the 17th December, you will kick yourself if you miss it.
